He Frowned

Sura 8042 versesRevelation order 24عبس

  1. بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ

    In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
  2. عَبَسَ وَتَوَلّىٰ

    He (Muhammad) frowned and turned away.

    When the blind man came to him.

  4. وَما يُدريكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكّىٰ

    How do you know? He may purify himself.

  5. أَو يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ الذِّكرىٰ

    Or he may take heed, and benefit from the message.

  6. أَمّا مَنِ استَغنىٰ

    As for the rich man.

  7. فَأَنتَ لَهُ تَصَدّىٰ

    You gave him your attention.

  8. وَما عَلَيكَ أَلّا يَزَّكّىٰ

    Even though you could not guarantee his salvation.

    The one who came to you eagerly.

    And is really reverent.

    Whoever wills shall take heed.

    In honorable scriptures.

    Exalted and pure.

    (Written) by the hands of messengers.

    Who are honorable and righteous.

  18. قُتِلَ الإِنسٰنُ ما أَكفَرَهُ

    Woe to the human being; he is so unappreciative!

  19. مِن أَىِّ شَيءٍ خَلَقَهُ

    What did He create him from?
  20. مِن نُطفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ

    From a tiny drop, He creates him and designs him.

  21. ثُمَّ السَّبيلَ يَسَّرَهُ

    Then He points out the path for him.

  22. ثُمَّ أَماتَهُ فَأَقبَرَهُ

    Then He puts him to death, and into the grave.

    When He wills, He resurrects him.

    He shall uphold His commandments.

    Let the human consider his food!

    A variety of orchards.

    Fruits and vegetables.

    To provide life support for you and your animals.

    Then, when the blow comes to pass.

  35. يَومَ يَفِرُّ المَرءُ مِن أَخيهِ

    That is the day when one flees from his brother.

    From his mother and father.

    From his spouse and children.

  38. لِكُلِّ امرِئٍ مِنهُم يَومَئِذٍ شَأنٌ يُغنيهِ

    Each one of them, on that day, worries about his own destiny.

    Some faces on that day will be happy.

    Laughing and joyful.

    Other faces, on that day, will be covered with misery.
