Sura 1599 versesRevelation order 54الحجر

  1. بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ

    In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
  2. الر ۚ تِلكَ ءايٰتُ الكِتٰبِ وَقُرءانٍ مُبينٍ

    A.L.R.* These (letters) are proofs of this scripture; a profound Quran.

  3. رُبَما يَوَدُّ الَّذينَ كَفَروا لَو كانوا مُسلِمينَ

    Certainly, those who disbelieved will wish they were submitters.

  4. ذَرهُم يَأكُلوا وَيَتَمَتَّعوا وَيُلهِهِمُ الأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوفَ يَعلَمونَ

    Let them eat, enjoy, and remain blinded by wishful thinking; they will find out.

  5. وَما أَهلَكنا مِن قَريَةٍ إِلّا وَلَها كِتابٌ مَعلومٌ

    We never annihilated any community, except in accordance with a specific, predetermined time.

  6. ما تَسبِقُ مِن أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَها وَما يَستَـٔخِرونَ

    The end of any community can never be advanced, nor delayed.

  7. وَقالوا يٰأَيُّهَا الَّذى نُزِّلَ عَلَيهِ الذِّكرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجنونٌ

    They said, "O you who received this reminder, you are crazy.

  8. لَو ما تَأتينا بِالمَلٰئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقينَ

    "Why do you not bring down the angels, if you are truthful?"

  9. ما نُنَزِّلُ المَلٰئِكَةَ إِلّا بِالحَقِّ وَما كانوا إِذًا مُنظَرينَ

    We do not send down the angels except for specific functions. Otherwise, no one will be respited.

God's Messenger of the Covenant*

  1. إِنّا نَحنُ نَزَّلنَا الذِّكرَ وَإِنّا لَهُ لَحٰفِظونَ

    Absolutely, we have revealed the reminder, and, absolutely, we will preserve it.

  2. وَلَقَد أَرسَلنا مِن قَبلِكَ فى شِيَعِ الأَوَّلينَ

    We have sent (messengers) before you to the communities in the past.

  3. وَما يَأتيهِم مِن رَسولٍ إِلّا كانوا بِهِ يَستَهزِءونَ

    Every time a messenger went to them, they ridiculed him.

  4. كَذٰلِكَ نَسلُكُهُ فى قُلوبِ المُجرِمينَ

    We thus control the minds of the guilty.

  5. لا يُؤمِنونَ بِهِ ۖ وَقَد خَلَت سُنَّةُ الأَوَّلينَ

    Consequently, they cannot believe in him. This has been the system since the past generations.

  6. وَلَو فَتَحنا عَلَيهِم بابًا مِنَ السَّماءِ فَظَلّوا فيهِ يَعرُجونَ

    Even if we opened for them a gate into the sky, through which they climb;

  7. لَقالوا إِنَّما سُكِّرَت أَبصٰرُنا بَل نَحنُ قَومٌ مَسحورونَ

    they will say, "Our eyes have been deceived. We have been bewitched."

  8. وَلَقَد جَعَلنا فِى السَّماءِ بُروجًا وَزَيَّنّٰها لِلنّٰظِرينَ

    We placed galaxies in the sky, and adorned it for the beholders.

  9. وَحَفِظنٰها مِن كُلِّ شَيطٰنٍ رَجيمٍ

    And we guarded it against every rejected devil.

  10. إِلّا مَنِ استَرَقَ السَّمعَ فَأَتبَعَهُ شِهابٌ مُبينٌ

    If any of them sneaks around to listen, a mighty projectile will chase him back.

  11. وَالأَرضَ مَدَدنٰها وَأَلقَينا فيها رَوٰسِىَ وَأَنبَتنا فيها مِن كُلِّ شَيءٍ مَوزونٍ

    As for the earth, we constructed it, and placed on it stabilizers (mountains), and we grew on it a perfect balance of everything.

  12. وَجَعَلنا لَكُم فيها مَعٰيِشَ وَمَن لَستُم لَهُ بِرٰزِقينَ

    We made it habitable for you,* and for creatures you do not provide for.

  13. وَإِن مِن شَيءٍ إِلّا عِندَنا خَزائِنُهُ وَما نُنَزِّلُهُ إِلّا بِقَدَرٍ مَعلومٍ

    There is nothing that we do not own infinite amounts thereof. But we send it down in precise measure.

  14. وَأَرسَلنَا الرِّيٰحَ لَوٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلنا مِنَ السَّماءِ ماءً فَأَسقَينٰكُموهُ وَما أَنتُم لَهُ بِخٰزِنينَ

    And we send the winds as pollinators, and cause water to come down from the sky for you to drink. Otherwise, you could not keep it palatable.

  15. وَإِنّا لَنَحنُ نُحيۦ وَنُميتُ وَنَحنُ الوٰرِثونَ

    It is we who control life and death, and we are the ultimate inheritors.

  16. وَلَقَد عَلِمنَا المُستَقدِمينَ مِنكُم وَلَقَد عَلِمنَا المُستَـٔخِرينَ

    And we fully know those among you who advance, and we fully know those who regress.

  17. وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحشُرُهُم ۚ إِنَّهُ حَكيمٌ عَليمٌ

    Your Lord will surely summon them. He is Most Wise, Omniscient.

The Human Race

  1. وَلَقَد خَلَقنَا الإِنسٰنَ مِن صَلصٰلٍ مِن حَمَإٍ مَسنونٍ

    We created the human being from aged mud, like the potter's clay.

  2. وَالجانَّ خَلَقنٰهُ مِن قَبلُ مِن نارِ السَّمومِ

    As for the jinns, we created them, before that, from blazing fire.

  3. وَإِذ قالَ رَبُّكَ لِلمَلٰئِكَةِ إِنّى خٰلِقٌ بَشَرًا مِن صَلصٰلٍ مِن حَمَإٍ مَسنونٍ

    Your Lord said to the angels, "I am creating a human being from aged mud, like the potter's clay.

  4. فَإِذا سَوَّيتُهُ وَنَفَختُ فيهِ مِن روحى فَقَعوا لَهُ سٰجِدينَ

    "Once I perfect him, and blow into him from My spirit, you shall fall prostrate before him."

  5. فَسَجَدَ المَلٰئِكَةُ كُلُّهُم أَجمَعونَ

    The angels fell prostrate; all of them,

  6. إِلّا إِبليسَ أَبىٰ أَن يَكونَ مَعَ السّٰجِدينَ

    except Iblis (Satan). He refused to be with the prostrators.

  7. قالَ يٰإِبليسُ ما لَكَ أَلّا تَكونَ مَعَ السّٰجِدينَ

    He said, "O Iblis (Satan), why are you not with the prostrators?"

  8. قالَ لَم أَكُن لِأَسجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقتَهُ مِن صَلصٰلٍ مِن حَمَإٍ مَسنونٍ

    He said, "I am not to prostrate before a human being, whom You created from aged mud, like the potter's clay."

  9. قالَ فَاخرُج مِنها فَإِنَّكَ رَجيمٌ

    He said, "Therefore, you must get out; you are banished.

  10. وَإِنَّ عَلَيكَ اللَّعنَةَ إِلىٰ يَومِ الدّينِ

    "You have incurred My condemnation until the Day of Judgment."

  11. قالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرنى إِلىٰ يَومِ يُبعَثونَ

    He said, "My Lord, respite me until the day they are resurrected."

  12. قالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ المُنظَرينَ

    He said, "You are respited.

  13. إِلىٰ يَومِ الوَقتِ المَعلومِ

    "Until the specified day and time."

  14. قالَ رَبِّ بِما أَغوَيتَنى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُم فِى الأَرضِ وَلَأُغوِيَنَّهُم أَجمَعينَ

    He said, "My Lord, since You have willed that I go astray, I will surely entice them on earth; I will send them all astray.

  15. إِلّا عِبادَكَ مِنهُمُ المُخلَصينَ

    "Except those among Your worshipers who are devoted absolutely to You alone."

  16. قالَ هٰذا صِرٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُستَقيمٌ

    He said, "This is a law that is inviolable.

  17. إِنَّ عِبادى لَيسَ لَكَ عَلَيهِم سُلطٰنٌ إِلّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الغاوينَ

    "You have no power over My servants. You only have power over the strayers who follow you.

  18. وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوعِدُهُم أَجمَعينَ

    "And Hell awaits them all.

  19. لَها سَبعَةُ أَبوٰبٍ لِكُلِّ بابٍ مِنهُم جُزءٌ مَقسومٌ

    "It will have seven gates. Each gate will get a specific share of them."

  20. إِنَّ المُتَّقينَ فى جَنّٰتٍ وَعُيونٍ

    As for the righteous, they will enjoy gardens and springs.

  21. ادخُلوها بِسَلٰمٍ ءامِنينَ

    Enter therein, peaceful and secure.

  22. وَنَزَعنا ما فى صُدورِهِم مِن غِلٍّ إِخوٰنًا عَلىٰ سُرُرٍ مُتَقٰبِلينَ

    We remove all jealousy from their hearts. Like one family, they will be on adjacent furnishings.

  23. لا يَمَسُّهُم فيها نَصَبٌ وَما هُم مِنها بِمُخرَجينَ

    Never will they suffer any fatigue therein; never will they be evicted therefrom.

  24. نَبِّئ عِبادى أَنّى أَنَا الغَفورُ الرَّحيمُ

    Inform My servants that I am the Forgiver, Most Merciful.

  25. وَأَنَّ عَذابى هُوَ العَذابُ الأَليمُ

    And that My retribution is the most painful retribution.

Angels Visit Abraham

  1. وَنَبِّئهُم عَن ضَيفِ إِبرٰهيمَ

    Inform them about Abraham's guests.

  2. إِذ دَخَلوا عَلَيهِ فَقالوا سَلٰمًا قالَ إِنّا مِنكُم وَجِلونَ

    When they entered his quarters, they said, "Peace." He said, "We are apprehensive about you."

  3. قالوا لا تَوجَل إِنّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلٰمٍ عَليمٍ

    They said, "Do not be apprehensive. We have good news for you: an enlightened son."

  4. قالَ أَبَشَّرتُمونى عَلىٰ أَن مَسَّنِىَ الكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرونَ

    He said, "How can you give me such good news, when I am so old? Do you still give me this good news?"

  5. قالوا بَشَّرنٰكَ بِالحَقِّ فَلا تَكُن مِنَ القٰنِطينَ

    They said, "The good news we give you is true; do not despair."

  6. قالَ وَمَن يَقنَطُ مِن رَحمَةِ رَبِّهِ إِلَّا الضّالّونَ

    He said, "None despairs of his Lord's mercy, except the strayers."

  7. قالَ فَما خَطبُكُم أَيُّهَا المُرسَلونَ

    He said, "What is your mission, O messengers?"

  8. قالوا إِنّا أُرسِلنا إِلىٰ قَومٍ مُجرِمينَ

    They said, "We are being dispatched to guilty people.

  9. إِلّا ءالَ لوطٍ إِنّا لَمُنَجّوهُم أَجمَعينَ

    "As for Lot's family, we will save them all.

  10. إِلَّا امرَأَتَهُ قَدَّرنا ۙ إِنَّها لَمِنَ الغٰبِرينَ

    "But not his wife; she is destined to be with the doomed."

Lot

  1. فَلَمّا جاءَ ءالَ لوطٍ المُرسَلونَ

    The messengers went to Lot's town.

  2. قالَ إِنَّكُم قَومٌ مُنكَرونَ

    He said, "You are unknown people."

  3. قالوا بَل جِئنٰكَ بِما كانوا فيهِ يَمتَرونَ

    They said, "We bring to you what they have been doubting.

  4. وَأَتَينٰكَ بِالحَقِّ وَإِنّا لَصٰدِقونَ

    "We bring to you the truth; we are truthful.

  5. فَأَسرِ بِأَهلِكَ بِقِطعٍ مِنَ الَّيلِ وَاتَّبِع أَدبٰرَهُم وَلا يَلتَفِت مِنكُم أَحَدٌ وَامضوا حَيثُ تُؤمَرونَ

    "You shall take your family during the night. Stay behind them, and make sure that none of you looks back. Go straight as commanded."

  6. وَقَضَينا إِلَيهِ ذٰلِكَ الأَمرَ أَنَّ دابِرَ هٰؤُلاءِ مَقطوعٌ مُصبِحينَ

    We delivered to him this command: those people are to be annihilated in the morning.

  7. وَجاءَ أَهلُ المَدينَةِ يَستَبشِرونَ

    The people of the city came joyfully.

  8. قالَ إِنَّ هٰؤُلاءِ ضَيفى فَلا تَفضَحونِ

    He said, "These are my guests; do not embarrass me.

  9. وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلا تُخزونِ

    "Fear GOD, and do not shame me."

  10. قالوا أَوَلَم نَنهَكَ عَنِ العٰلَمينَ

    They said, "Did we not enjoin you from contacting anyone?"

  11. قالَ هٰؤُلاءِ بَناتى إِن كُنتُم فٰعِلينَ

    He said, "Here are my daughters, if you must."

  12. لَعَمرُكَ إِنَّهُم لَفى سَكرَتِهِم يَعمَهونَ

    But, alas, they were totally blinded by their lust.

  13. فَأَخَذَتهُمُ الصَّيحَةُ مُشرِقينَ

    Consequently, the disaster struck them in the morning.

  14. فَجَعَلنا عٰلِيَها سافِلَها وَأَمطَرنا عَلَيهِم حِجارَةً مِن سِجّيلٍ

    We turned it upside down, and showered them with devastating rocks.

  15. إِنَّ فى ذٰلِكَ لَءايٰتٍ لِلمُتَوَسِّمينَ

    This is a lesson for those who possess intelligence.

  16. وَإِنَّها لَبِسَبيلٍ مُقيمٍ

    This will always be the system.

  17. إِنَّ فى ذٰلِكَ لَءايَةً لِلمُؤمِنينَ

    This is a sign for the believers.

    The people of the woods also were transgressors.

  19. فَانتَقَمنا مِنهُم وَإِنَّهُما لَبِإِمامٍ مُبينٍ

    Consequently, we avenged from them, and both communities are fully documented.

  20. وَلَقَد كَذَّبَ أَصحٰبُ الحِجرِ المُرسَلينَ

    The people of Al-Hijr disbelieved the messengers.

End of the World Unveiled*

  1. وَما خَلَقنَا السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالأَرضَ وَما بَينَهُما إِلّا بِالحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ السّاعَةَ لَءاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَاصفَحِ الصَّفحَ الجَميلَ

    We did not create the heavens and the earth, and everything between them, except for a specific purpose. The end of the world will come, so treat them with benign neglect.

  2. إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الخَلّٰقُ العَليمُ

    Your Lord is the Creator, the Omniscient.

  3. وَلَقَد ءاتَينٰكَ سَبعًا مِنَ المَثانى وَالقُرءانَ العَظيمَ

    We have given you the seven pairs, and the great Quran.

  4. لا تَمُدَّنَّ عَينَيكَ إِلىٰ ما مَتَّعنا بِهِ أَزوٰجًا مِنهُم وَلا تَحزَن عَلَيهِم وَاخفِض جَناحَكَ لِلمُؤمِنينَ

    Do not be jealous of what we bestowed upon the other (messengers), and do not be saddened (by the disbelievers), and lower your wing for the believers.

  5. وَقُل إِنّى أَنَا النَّذيرُ المُبينُ

    And proclaim: "I am the manifest warner."

  9. عَمّا كانوا يَعمَلونَ

    about everything they have done.
  10. فَاصدَع بِما تُؤمَرُ وَأَعرِض عَنِ المُشرِكينَ

    Therefore, carry out the orders given to you, and disregard the idol worshipers.

  11. إِنّا كَفَينٰكَ المُستَهزِءينَ

    We will spare you the mockers,

  12. الَّذينَ يَجعَلونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلٰهًا ءاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوفَ يَعلَمونَ

    who set up another god beside GOD. They will surely find out.
  13. وَلَقَد نَعلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضيقُ صَدرُكَ بِما يَقولونَ

    We know full well that you may be annoyed by their utterances.

  14. فَسَبِّح بِحَمدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِنَ السّٰجِدينَ

    You shall sing the praises of your Lord, and be with the prostrators.

  15. وَاعبُد رَبَّكَ حَتّىٰ يَأتِيَكَ اليَقينُ

    And worship your Lord, in order to attain certainty.*
